Basic Tomato Sauce

Yield Makes 2 1/2 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes, crushed
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

How to Make It

  1. Stir together all ingredients in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low, and cook, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes.
