Basic Butter Pastry

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, chilled
3 to 4 tablespoons cold water

Preparation

Combine flour and salt in a small bowl; cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle water evenly over surface; stir with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened. Shape dough into a ball; chill. Use as directed in desired recipe.
