Sift together dry ingredients. Combine milk and lard; add to dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened.
Spoon batter into 2 greased 7 1/2- x 3- x 2-inch loaf pans. Bake at 400° for 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove bread from pans immediately; cool on wire racks.
