Push a wooden craft stick into the top of each apple. Bring sugar, corn syrup, and water to a boil in a medium, heavy saucepan, stirring until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook, without stirring, 9 minutes or until lightly golden (about 260°). Stir half-and-half, vanilla, and salt into caramel. Simmer until candy thermometer registers 235°, stirring frequently.
Combine cooked and crumbled bacon and crushed pretzels in a bowl.
Stir peanut butter into caramel; pour mixture into a bowl sitting in a hot water bath. Swirl bottom halves of apples in caramel; dip in pretzel mixture.
I made these for a party and they were a hit. I altered the recipe and sliced the apples, dipped them in Orange juice to stop the browning and then dipped the slices in the caramel. This was my first time making any type of candy so it would have been nice if the anticipated time to prepare was listed but I had plenty of time to prepare. I also didn't make the water hot enough and had to microwave the caramel a few times to finish up, but that was again more due to my inexperience. I would definitely make these again for a special occasion.
