Asparagus Melt with Pesto Spread

Thought this was good for a quick, light meal...not OUTSTANDING, though.

Holy cow, was this good; I couldn't imagine 8 pieces of asparagus on one slice of bread, so I used 4 slices instead of 2. It's the pesto that makes this recipe.

Fabulous sandwich. The pesto mayo took it out of the ordinary. The asparagus was also an unexpected sandwich ingredient. Easily adaptable for vegetarians; just omit the ham. First made it for moms who were at my house for a playdate with their children. They were expecting the regular, bread with mayo and lunchmeat slapped together. They were wowed. Was easy to prepare. Had a call from the vegetarian mom for the recipe.

Holy cow the pesto spread is amazing, especially combined with the toasted bread, ham (I used Lightlife) and cheese. The asparagus is fresh and yummy but honestly out of place here - I'd save it for another sandwich.
