Arrange half of apples in a lightly greased 12- x 8- x 2-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with half of breadcrumbs. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle half of sugar mixture over bread crumbs. Dot with half of butter, and sprinkle with half of water. Repeat layers.
Bake at 400° for 45 minutes or until apples are tender. Spoon into individual serving bowls, and serve warm with whipping cream.
