Adventurous Spring Break Menus
Stuck at home or at the office this spring break, while all those college kids head off to the beach for fun in the sun? So are we. In honor of those days before "spring break" meant enrolling your kids in day camp for a week, we've compiled a collection of menus inspired by popular vacation spots. If nothing else, you can take your tastebuds on a road trip to Florida, the ski slopes, or even Vegas.
FloridaIt's hard to imagine a more classic spring break destination than sunny Florida. From Panama City Beach to Ft. Lauderdale, high school and college students alike descend on the state in droves to soak up the sunshine and delicious seafood. If you'll be landlocked this spring, whip up some of these Sunshine State dishes instead. From juicy crab cakes to Florida Spritzers (left), these recipes are sure to whisk you away to Margaritaville.
Las VegasEvery year, Las Vegas lures thousands of gambling hopefuls and soon-to-be-newlyweds to its glitzy, high-rise casinos and 24-hour wedding chapels. But you don't have to be checking out the all-you-can-eat casino buffets to eat great food, Vegas-style. This menu features our richest recipes, from the Gold Nugget Burger to Rich Chocolate Soufflé Cakes with Crème Anglaise (left). Instead of winging your way to Nevada, whip up some of these decadent, delicious recipes. Remember, the house–that is, your house–always wins.
SkiingIf hitting the Colorado slopes is more your style than hitting the beach, these recipes are perfect for those few chilly nights left in the season. The Chipotle-Black Bean Chili is a hearty main course, with just the right amount of heat, while Irish Brown Bread is an easy homemade bread that's perfect for sopping up those last few bites of chili. Warm up with Hot Chocolate with Ginger and finish off the evening with cozy and comforting Caramel-Apple Crumb Pie.
HawaiiAhh, Hawaii–the land of leis, coconuts, and grass skirts, and a favorite vacation destination around the world! Not only do the islands have great scenery and warm, friendly people, but they can boast about some delicious native dishes too. From Kona Macadamia-Caramel Torte to Chicken Char Siu (left), this exotic menu will have you saying "Aloha!" in no time.
CampingNothing beats roasting marshmallows over an open fire or pulling a foil-wrapped, piping hot dinner out of glowing red coals. If you love the smoky taste of camp-cooked fare or the sweet and salty flavors of trail mix, this menu is for you. We've featured a delicious fruit-and-nut mix (left), a tasty twist on s'mores that can be made in the oven, a classic hobo-style supper that heats up over the grill, and more campground favorites.
