Whole Wheat Biscuits With Honey Butter

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon firmly packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup shortening
1 cup milk


Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a medium mixing bowl; stir well. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Gradually add milk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead lightly 4 to 5 times.

Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/4-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes. Serve hot with Honey Butter.
