1/4 cup plus 1 1/3 teaspoons butter, softened
2 1/4 cups sifted powdered sugar, divided
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Combine butter and 1/2 cup sugar, creaming with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add remaining sugar alternately with milk, beating until spreading consistency. Add vanilla; beat well.
