Tangy Lemon Sauce

1 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon grated lemon rind
Juice of 2 lemons (about 3 1/2 tablespoons)
1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened


Combine all ingredients, except butter, in top of double boiler. Bring water to a boil and reduce heat to low. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in butter. Cool slightly.
