Spicy Turnip Greens

Several convenience products make this recipe appealing, in addition to garlic, Worcestershire, and a hint of lemon. Water chestnuts lend a little crunch.

1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup finely chopped celery
2 large garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
2 (10-ounce) packages frozen chopped turnip greens
1 (8-ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped
1 (10 3/4-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon grated lemon rind
6 to 8 drops of hot sauce
Salt and pepper to taste


Sauté first 3 ingredients in butter in a large saucepan until tender.

Cook turnip greens according to package directions; drain well. Add to saucepan. Stir in water chestnuts and remaining ingredients. Simmer, uncovered, 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
