Julia found this recipe in a cookbook by the Junior League of Montgomery, Alabama, where the punch is a town staple.
Makes 14 cups

2 cups fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup brandy
2 (750-milliliter) bottles chilled sparkling wine
1 (375-milliliter) bottle chilled dessert wine (such as Sauternes)
Garnishes: orange slices, lemon slices, cranberries
Hands-on: 15 Minutes
Total: 9 Hours, 40 Minutes
Stir together first 2 ingredients until sugar dissolves. Stir in brandy. Pour over Ice Ring in a punch bowl. Stir in sparkling and dessert wines.
