Molasses Muffins

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup molasses
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted


Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt in a medium mixing bowl; make a well in center of mixture. Add egg, buttermilk, molasses, and butter; stir just until dry ingredients are moistened.

Heat well-greased muffin pans in a 400° oven for 3 minutes or until very hot. Spoon batter into hot muffin pans, filling two-thirds full. Bake at 400° for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
