Meringue Pie Shell

2 egg whites
1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract


Beat egg whites (at room temperature), cream of tartar, and salt until foamy. Gradually add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form. Fold in pecans and vanilla. Spread meringue over bottom and sides of a greased 9-inch pie plate to form a pie shell. Bake at 275° for 50 to 55 minutes. Cool.
