2 tablespoons shortening
1 medium onion, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
12 ears fresh corn, cleaned and kernels cut from cob
1 cup chopped tomatoes
1/4 cup milk
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon pepper
Dash of red pepper
1 tablespoon butter or margarine


Melt shortening in a large Dutch oven. Add onion and green pepper; sauté until tender. Add corn, tomatoes, milk, salt, sugar, and pepper. Cook, uncovered, over medium heat 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Stir in butter before serving.
