Hot Spiced Punch

1 quart water
2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon grated lemon rind
1/2 cup lemon juice
2 (2-inch) cinnamon sticks
2 teaspoons whole cloves
1 quart grape juice
1 quart strong tea
Orange slices (optional)


Combine first 6 ingredients in large Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes; strain, and return to Dutch oven. Stir in grape juice and tea. Heat thoroughly; serve hot with orange slices, if desired.
