Green Beans With Onion Slaw

2 pounds fresh green beans
2 tablespoons bacon drippings
1 teaspoon sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 cups water


Remove strings from beans; wash and cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Combine beans, drippings, sugar, salt, pepper, and water in a large Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 2 hours or until beans are tender. Serve Onion Slaw over beans.
