Graham Cracker-Nut Torte

This brownielike torte will stick to the pieplate; don't try to turn it out onto a cake plate. Bring individual servings to the table.
1 (9-inch) torte

3 large eggs, separated
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans


Combine egg yolks and next 6 ingredients, stirring well.

Beat egg whites at high speed with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form; fold into crumb mixture. Spoon into a greased and floured 9-inch pieplate.

Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Serve warm or cold with sweetened whipped cream, if desired.
