Dressed Asparagus

1 cup water
1 cup vinegar
2 cups sugar
4 (3-inch) sticks cinnamon
12 whole cloves
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons celery seeds
3 (15-ounce) cans white asparagus spears


Combine all ingredients, except asparagus, in a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Remove from heat; cool slightly.

Arrange asparagus in a shallow dish; pour marinade over asparagus. Cover and chill several hours. Drain; discard marinade.
