pastry for one double-crust 10-inch pie

3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
3/4 to 1 cup cold water


Place flour in a mixing bowl; cut in shortening and butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle water over flour mixture; stir with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened. Shape into a ball; chill 30 minutes.
