Date-Bacon Muffins

1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
3/4 cup chopped dates
4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled


Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add egg; beat until blended.

Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in dates and crumbled bacon.

Spoon batter into greased muffin pans, filling two-thirds full. Bake at 400° for 20 minutes.
