Creamy Chocolate Filling

2/3 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 (6-ounce) package semisweet chocolate morsels
1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Combine milk, water, and cornstarch in a small heavy saucepan, mixing well. Add sugar, butter, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth. Stir in chocolate morsels and vanilla. Chill thoroughly; stir before using.
