Cranberry Compote

3 cups water
1 1/2 to 2 cups sugar
2 medium-size cooking apples, peeled, cored, and cubed
2 oranges, peeled, sliced, and seeded
2 cups fresh cranberries


Combine water and sugar in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and cook 5 minutes. Add apples, and cook 5 minutes. Add oranges and cranberries; cook an additional 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Let cool, and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled. Spoon into individual serving, bowls.
