Chocolate Frosting

frosting for one 15- x 10-inch cake

1 1/2 cups sugar
2 (1-ounce) squares semi-sweet chocolate
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Combine all ingredients, except vanilla, in a large saucepan; bring to a rolling boil, stirring occasionally. Boil rapidly 1 minute; remove from heat, and cool slightly.

Add vanilla, and beat constantly with a wire whisk until mixture begins to thicken. Use immediately.
