Chicken and Barley Soup

1 pound skinned, boned chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup sliced carrot
1 cup chopped sweet red pepper
1/2 cup medium barley, uncooked
1 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
3 (14 1/4-ounce) cans no-salt-added chicken broth

Preparation

Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes. Uncover and simmer 15 minutes or until barley is tender.
