Cheddar Cheese Pastry

pastry for one 10-inch deep-dish pie

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
Dash of red pepper
2/3 cup lard
1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
6 to 7 tablespoons cold water


Combine flour, salt, and pepper; cut in lard and cheese with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle water evenly over surface; stir with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened. Shape dough into a ball; chill. Use as directed in desired recipe.
