Buttercream Frosting

frosting for one 3-layer tiered cake

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
8 cups sifted powdered sugar
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons whipping cream


Combine butter and shortening in a large mixing bowl; beat well with an electric mixer. Add flavorings and salt. Gradually add sugar, 1 cup at a time. Add whipping cream to creamed mixture, beating until smooth enough to spread.
