pastry for one 10-inch deep-dish double-crust pie

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup lard
1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon milk
1 egg
1 tablespoon vinegar


Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut in lard with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Combine last 3 ingredients; add to flour mixture. Stir with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened. Shape dough into a ball; chill. Use as directed in desired recipe.
