Beer Beans

1 (16-ounce) package dried pinto beans
1 (12-ounce) can beer
2 quarts water
3 large ripe tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and chopped
2 large onions, chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons garlic salt
2 teaspoons cumin seeds
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper


Place beans in a large saucepan. Cover with water 3 inches above beans; let soak overnight.

Drain beans, and return to saucepan; add beer. Slowly bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes or until beer has evaporated.

Add remaining ingredients, stirring well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 1 hour. Uncover and continue to simmer 2 hours or until beans are tender.
