Do you remember the episode of Friends when Rachel made the dessert for Thanksgiving dinner? Having no idea how to cook or read a recipe, she accidentally put beef in the trifle. While everyone else at the table could hardly stomach a single bite, Joey responded, "Custard, good. Jam, good. Meat, good!" without even realizing that an error had been made.

I often channel Joey on the days I'm trying to empty my fridge by throwing a bizarre collection of ingredients all in the same dish. I've found that this practice, while sometimes catastrophic, ends well about 75% of the time. So, while I understand that the thought of putting meat in fruity desserts is completely gag-inducing, it turns out that the opposite approach can be kind of genius! Below, find three juicy summer fruits with starring roles in savory dishes like pizza, focaccia—even stir-fry.
