Holidays are taken very seriously at the MyRecipes HQ, and we don’t discriminate. From Christmas to Ice Cream Soda Day (June 20th), we’ve got thousands of recipes ready for celebration, because why not?!

Sure, National Eat Your Vegetables Day (June 17th) is more of a yawn than National Chocolate-Covered Insects Day (October 14th), but sometimes you hit obscure holiday gold—like today. Happy National Vodka Day, everyone!

Vodka's name stems from the Russian word for water, which is an apt translation as it's typically described as both odorless and neutral tasting. It makes an ideal base for infusions and fruity liqueurs, like Italy's Limoncello, not to mention James Bond and Carrie Bradshaw's iconic drinks of choice. Of our almost 200 vodka cocktail recipes, you're sure to find your signature too.

After one too many Cosmos, most of us can agree taking the “hair of the dog” approach at Sunday brunch is easier to stomach when the alcohol is disguised in a glass of spicy tomato juice. Speaking of Bloody Marys, Alaska Distillery created smoked salmon flavored vodka specifically to be enjoyed in the brunch cocktail. Salmon vodka joins the growing list of unusual food-flavored vodka on the market—still scratching my head over the PB&J flavor. I personally like the liquor best served over pasta in the classic Penne alla Vodka.

Toast the unsung holiday with a spirited menu on us:
