What's New In My Pantry?

Jams...handmade herbal jams, to be exact. I met these yummy concoctions recently when I attended FoodBlogSouth - a blogging conference highlighting Southern people, places, and foods.

At a small table in the main hall, Sallie, owner of Sallie's Greatest Jams, happily offered me a taste of her recipe. You could tell she was proud of her products...and she had reason to be.

Working in corporate America for more than 20 years, she traveled and dined in some of the finest restaurants in the country. But it wasn't until she gave up this lifestyle and returned home to rural South Carolina that she turned her own secret recipes into a delicious business.

Sallie teamed up with local farmer (and her neighbor) Monty Rast of Longview Acres to produce her jams with the freshest local ingredients possible. My sampling of the Peach Pepper + Ginger Jam was so good, I left with jars of it and Strawberry + Basil Jam for my family to try (and to keep in my pantry, of course).

Now the peppery peach jam is a staple for parties (atop cream cheese and served with crackers here). And the strawberry jam makes an appearance on Saturday mornings at breakfast with my husband and our toddler. Thanks, Sallie, for this down-home treat!
