Black rice, like brown rice, is a whole grain. That deep, gorgeous color indicates the presence of some great health-promoting antioxidants called anthocyanins–the compound that gives blueberries and blackberries their color and makes them so good for us. Some researchers, impressed with it’s concentration of anthocyanins, fiber and Vitamin E, consider black rice a superfood

Black rice is a little chewier than brown and–a gift to us from Mother Nature–cooks faster!  Black rice is sometimes called Forbidden Rice, because in China it used to be that only noblemen were allowed to eat it. It is black when raw, and deep purple when cooked.
