Keep these 20 items on hand at all times and you'll be able to make at least 20 main-dish recipes. Any given day of the week, you'll have enough ingredients to make an easy and tasty meal.

In the freezer:Ground round, chicken breast/tenders/chopped cooked chicken, frozen chopped onions, frozen pepper stir-fry, frozen peeled shrimp

In the refrigerator:Light butter, shredded reduced-fat Cheddar or part-skim mozzarella, Monterey Jack cheese, pre-shredded fresh Parmesan, pesto, pizza crust dough, salsa, flour tortillas, corn tortillas

In the pantry:pasta (of your preference), canned beans (cannellini, white, black, etc.), canned tomatoes, low-sodium chicken or beef broth, pasta sauce, boil-in-bag long-grain rice
