Making Royal Icing

Use this stiff, white icing to decorate cookies, cakes and gingerbread houses.

Video Transcript

To make the icing for decorating the cookies, combine a package of powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons of meringue powder, and about 6 tablespoons of water.  Beat with a mixer at low speed until blended, then continue to beat at high speed until stiff peaks form. If the icing is too stiff, add additional water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until you have the desired consistency. This icing dries rapidly, so keep extra icing covered tightly while you are working.
