The Best Dishes for Bastille Day

Bonjuour! Tomorrow is Bastille Day, or as the French call it La Fête Nationale. The French national holiday is traditionally celebrated with parades, music, dancing, fireworks, and, of course, food. So, in honor of the celebration, we’ve pulled together some of our French favorites—and we’re not talking about French toast or French fries.

French Bread: Whether it’s in the form of a baguette or a loaf, classic French breads can star in many dishes. Check out this recipe for a basic French Baguette. For more inspiration, browse through 7 Ways With French Bread.

Crepes: French crepes are thin and delicate pancakes that can be filled with many ingredients, including fresh fruit, veggie, various sauces, cream cheese, and more. Crepes can also be served as a main dish or a dessert. Don’t those Berry-Filled Cinnamon Crepes look divine?!

Cassoulet: These rich, slow-cooked French casseroles often feature beans, chicken, sausage, and lamb. One of our favorite Cassoulet recipes is this Quick Cassoulet from Cooking Light.

Bouillabaisse: This French seafood stew is often filled with a variety of shellfish and vegetables simmered together in a broth and served with rouille. This Classic Bouillabaisse with Rouille-Topped Croutons consists of clams, mussels, shrimp, red snapper, and more.

Galettes: These round and flat French tarts are made with a flaky pastry crust and can be filled with a variety of ingredients, such as fruit, chocolate or cheese. This Blueberry and Blackberry Galette with Cornmeal Crust is the perfect rustic summer tart.

Crème brûlée: Crème brûlée is a classic French dessert, and there are many recipes to choose from, but our favorite is this Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee, which calls for just 5 ingredients!
