This one's for the ladies.

The arrival of February means its time to start prepping for our favorite love-centric holiday of the year… and we’re not talking about Valentine’s Day. While V-day can be somewhat exclusionary, limited to those with a romantic partner, Galentine’s Day can be celebrated by anyone and everyone with amazing women in their lives.

In the words of Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler’s character on Parks and Recreation, who originated the holiday): “What’s Galentine’s day? Only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home and just come kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”

So, whether you’re single, taken, or somewhere in between, it’s time to round up your favorite ladies and celebrate your love for each other with all of the food, booze, and—yes—chocolate you can handle.

There are no rules or restrictions for celebrating Galentine’s beyond dedicating a chunk of time to the female friends, coworkers, and family members who inspire you. For some inspiration on how to kick off your girl power-filled celebration, read on.

The Snacks

The key to any amazing party is an equally amazing snack spread, which can range from simple to swanky depending on the mood of the night. If you’re trying to curb party costs, ask each guest to bring their signature dish and turn the night into a Galentine’s potluck.

For a true Leslie Knope inspired affair, prepare an epic buttermilk waffle bar complete with all the fixings. Bring your waffle game to the next level with the addition of fried chicken and French fries as an ode to the “Fries Over Guys” mantra.

On the sweeter side, have your girls make their own personalized Chocolate Covered Strawberries with sprinkles and edible glitter, or prepare a big pot of Chocolate Bar Fondue to dip into with fresh fruit, marshmallows, and pound cake.

Throwback to your pajama party days by inviting everyone over in their cutest P.J.s and making homemade pizzas and other nostalgic slumber party snacks. Prepare your pizza dough ahead of time and let your guests add the toppings of their choice before baking. Complete your feast with a big batch of Edible Cookie Dough, which can be safely eaten straight from the bowl, or opt for some Cookie Dough Ice Cream Sandwiches.

As for a Galentine’s themed drink your friends will love, think pink with a few pitchers of Rosé Sangria

The Set-Up

Kick your party spread up a notch with the help of some specialized decorations like a “Be My Galentine” banner, and Galentine’s themed wine bottle labels, which will act as both a special customized touch and photo prop for all of your Instagramming needs.

When it comes to party favors, rather than spending tons of money on Galentine’s cards, hand out homemade s’mores kits that read “I need s’more friends like you,” or use these fun, free printouts to make your own cards on a budget.

Because every fabulous party deserves to be documented, set up a photo booth with metallic background, funny accessories, and Galentine’s-themed props. Bonus points if you provide an Instant camera so that guests can bring their photos home with them as a party memento.

The Fun

Once you’ve got your food spread and decorations on lock, all that’s left to worry about is the entertainment. Challenge your party guests to toss their phones into a bowl at the start of the night (maybe after they have the chance to snap a couple of pics) and commit to spending a few hours celebrating their friendship, not texting significant others or scrolling through social media feeds.

Turn your party into a spa night by donning DIY facemasks made with pantry staples and taking turns giving each other manicures. Hold a marathon of your favorite throwback rom-coms and cuddle up with bowls of White Chocolate Popcorn. Or, feel like a kid again by getting crafty with some old-school friendship bracelets

Invest in a Galentine’s themed Drink If game, with prompts like “Drink if you’ll be my Galentine,” and “Drink if you choose fries over guys.” Or, follow your own Galentine’s drinking game rules. For some slightly more sophisticated boozy fun, hold your own wine tasting party, complete with a beautiful cheese board and charcuterie platter. Or, just let the wine flow freely and spend some time doing exactly what Galentine’s Day is all about: Celebrating the women you love most.
