Our sister brand Cooking Light is launching a new video series starring executive chef and registered dietician Anna Bullet. The Simple Swaps series will feature delicious recipes as well as nutrition tips and ideas for meal planning. In today’s opening episode, we’re swapping out the bad carbs for better carbs. So, if you love carbs, but you’re trying to eat healthier, this episode is just for you!

Here are Anna’s 4 Smart Carb Swaps:

  1. Swap baked beans for black beans with sautéed bell peppers, jalapeno, lime, and fresh cilantro to drop 10 grams of carbs.
  2. Avoid salad dressings that hide unwanted carbs, such as honey mustard or raspberry vinaigrette. Instead, choose simple vinaigrettes, which have zero carbs and heart-healthy fats.
  3. Trade traditional mashed potatoes for mashed butternut squash. Mashed butternut squash has just 47 calories, 12 grams of carbs, and 4 grams of fiber per half cup serving!
  4. Switch your go-to side of white rice for a side of quinoa to drop 2 grams of carbs per half cup serving.
