Let’s say you’ve been out shopping for six hours and your last stop is Urban Outfitters. It’s packed with people trying on frocks and knit caps and whatnot. Kids on leashes are screaming at parents, parents are screaming at their leashed kids. The PA system is playing that SZA song you like, but you don’t like it enough to want to stay any longer. It’s a candle-scented madhouse and you need to get out of there before you have a holiday-shopping panic attack.

It is time to reclaim the jelled dessert. And while I believe that there is a certain retro charm to the orange mold made with sherbet or the magical layered stripes of a rainbow slice, I’m thinking a little more elegant. Not a neon-colored watch-it-wiggle concoction, but a sophisticated chilled dessert with just the barest wobble.

What’s in a brand name? It can convey an aspirational idea, conjure up images of paradise, or forge a sense of connection between consumer and product. Hawaiian Snacks seems to cover all three. But it would seem that name doesn’t quite deliver on its promise, and a recently-filed lawsuit seeks to prove it.
