Summer camp means more snacks than ever before.

It’s amazing that kids can get through the school year with just two snacks a day. They somehow manage to stay totally full and focused from music class to recess, with just a couple of snack breaks. But suddenly, summer comes around and day camps plan for four (or more) snacks a day. Plus, you need backups on hand for that period of time between pickup and when dinner hits the table.

Take a deep breath, because we’ve got your snacking needs covered. Your favorite market (Trader Joe’s, obviously) has your back all summer long with convenient, kid-friendly snacks everyone will love (even you). Here are 12 camp-approved snacks you can grab during your next TJ’s run.

*NOTE: Always check with your child’s camp before packing peanut and tree nut based products.

Bamba

We were super excited when TJ’s brought this classic Israeli snack to their stores. The peanut-shaped puffs are perfect for kid-snacking, and bring a sweet, light, and airy crunch to your child’s lunchbox.

Crispbread Crackers

Full of sesame, sunflower, and flax seeds, this super-crunchy cracker is an awesome packable snack. Our staff loves it for any meal of the day, but when it comes to camp—it’s a snacking must. Top it with guacamole, hummus, cheese, nut butter, or really whatever your kids will eat.

Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

There’s nothing more embarrassing than pulling out a bag of kale chips when all of your camp friends’ parents packed them candy bars. These dark chocolate peanut butter cups are the perfect middle ground for a sweet, chocolatey treat your kid will love, and you’ll feel OK about packing.

Dried Fruit

TJ’s has quite a selection of dried fruit products that are perfect for easy snacking. Some staffers go for sweet plantain chips or dried baby bananas, but we’re all really big fans of the dried mango. It’s chewy, sweet, a little tangy, and completely unsweetened. We may have a few bags stashed at our own desks.

Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels

Have you ever wondered what a bite of crunchy, salty, creamy, and sweet all at once would taste like? Well, now you can have it. These little nuggets of peanut butter deliciousness are everything you and your kids would want at your respective snack times.

Inner Peas

If your kid craves the salty crunch of a potato chip, look no further than inner peas. The baked green pea snacks bring out a subtle sweetness, and are dressed up with a little salt for the perfect healthy, chip-like bite.

Crispy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chips Ahoy! has some competition this season, because we’re packing snack-bags full of these instead. The crispy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are chocolatey and sweet, with just a touch of oaty goodness.

Cheese

TJ’s packages some of our favorite cheeses in snack-size bites, so they’re easy to toss in a bag with fruit, veggies, or crackers. We’re big fans of of the mini Brie bites (because Brie is a superior cheese), but the goat cheese medallions, old school string cheese, or Baybel circles are also great picks.

Everything Bagel Seasoning Pretzel Slims

If we’re being honest, we’ve gone into TJ’s just to pick up a bag of these. They’re simply pretzel slims coated in TJ’s everything bagel seasoning. It’s the perfect dipper for guac, caramelized onion dip, hummus, or cream cheese spreads, but can also be enjoyed solo.

Envy Apples

The glorious envy apple typically comes in a mesh bag for easy shopping. The Braeburn and Royal Gala cross creates the sweetest apple we’ve ever tasted. Plus, they’re typically on the smaller side—perfect for little hands and tummies.

Trek Mix

Though TJ’s sells every nut under the sun, the Trek Mix bags are the perfect blend of sweet and salty. If you want extra convenience, grab a bag from their just a handful line, which individually wraps just a handful-worth of nuts, dried fruit, and candies for your kiddo.

Spud Crunchies Potato Snacks

Shaped to look like French fries (and shockingly, taste like them) these ultra-crunchy, shelf-stable treats are the way to your child’s heart. They may even stop asking to hit the drive thru on the way home from camp.
